Paying Your Bill

Statements

eBill account statements are sent via e-mail around the 10th day of each month. These statements reflect all transactions (i.e., charges and credits) to your account since the previous monthly statement. Learn more about eBill.

You are responsible for paying the bill by the stated due date if your statement indicates a balance due and your financial aid is inadequate to cover this balance. A late fee will be assessed if your bill is not paid on time. Questions about your eBill statement and late fees should be directed to the Chicago Office of Student Accounts.

Anticipated loan credits will appear on the first tuition bill for each term. They reflect the federal loan funds you are expected to receive for that term, which you can use to determine how much you owe the University beyond financial aid. The loan credits are automatically removed from your account when the loan funds are received at the Office of Student Accounts.

Anticipated grant credits will appear on the first tuition bill of the term for undergraduate students in the School of Continuing Studies. Grants will not disburse until after your enrollment and grant eligibility is verified on or after the financial aid Add/Drop deadline, which is the second Saturday of the term.

Payments

Matriculated students can make electronic payments to their student account using ePay; it is the preferred payment option for paying your Northwestern tuition bill.

Other payment options include:

  • By mail using a check or money order. (Remember to mail your payment a few days in advance of the due date to avoid a late fee).
  • In person with cash, check or money order at the Bursar's Office on either the Chicago or Evanston campus.
  • By credit card in person for some programs. At the beginning of each term, SCS students can pay by credit card at the SCS office, and Part-time MBA students can by credit card at the Part-Time MBA Program office.
  • Note: include your student identification number on the check or money order.

Late Fees

Late fees are assessed on accounts that are not paid by the due date specified on the billing statement. See the current Financial Regulations booklet (which can be downloaded from the SFS web site) provides a schedule of late fee and other charges for your degree program.

If your account has been assessed a late fee because financial aid has not yet disbursed to your account (for reasons beyond your control), and this pending financial aid would reduce your account balance to zero, you should request that the late fee be removed after all your financial aid has been applied and your account is paid in full. You may make this request to the Office of Student Accounts in person or by telephone.
